| New York--The Nielsen Jewelry Group has revealed the names of all of the panelists who will take part in the America's Best Jewelers breakfast education series taking place during the upcoming Couture show in Las Vegas.
Developed as part of National Jeweler's America's Best Jewelers (ABJ) benchmarking program and presented by Stuller, the peer-to-peer educational sessions are being conducted from June 3 to 6 in conjunction with the Couture 2010 jewelry show, which will take place June 3 to 7 at the Wynn in Las Vegas.
The sessions, which are back again this year by demand from retailers, are designed to provide critical information and successful business practice concepts that retailers can convert into viable methods for achieving success in their jewelry businesses.
The ABJ education schedule, complete with speaker and panelist information, is as follows:
Thursday, June 3
7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.--Breakfast
8 a.m. to 9 a.m.--"Peer Panel 1: Social Networking 1--Best Practices." Learn how jewelers are maximizing their productivity in exploiting social networking, from Facebook to Twitter, LinkedIn, Yelp and beyond. Covering relevant principals of successful social networking, from time management to content practices, to deciding who participates and more.
The session will be presented by Daniel Gordon, president of Samuel Gordon Jewelers, based in Oklahoma City. A fourth-generation jeweler and a leader in social networking, Gordon has created more than 20 different presences on the Internet, including those on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Digg, and LinkedIn as well as a highly viewed personal blog. In addition to Gordon, the panelists are: Brian Reid Alter, managing owner of Alter's Gem Jewelry in Beaumont, Texas; Rex Solomon, chief executive officer of Houston Jewelry in Houston; and Patrick Slavenburg, co-founder and "chief samurai" for Farlang.com in San Francisco and the Netherlands.
Friday, June 4
7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.--Breakfast
8 a.m. to 9 a.m.--"Peer Panel 2: Preparing and Positioning for the Rebound." As the U.S. economy begins to recover from the worst recession of our generation, jewelers will discuss how they're building foundations that will position them to capitalize on opportunities presented by the new marketplace, exploring disciplines from marketing to inventory.
Ed Tufexis, a jewelry industry veteran with four decades of expertise running retail jewelry operations, will present this session. Tufexis's experience spans independent stores and majors, including Saks Fifth Avenue, Montgomery Ward, Mayor's, Jan Bell, Sears and Ultra Stores. In addition to Tufexis, the panelists are: Ellen Fruchtman, president of Fruchtman Marketing in Toledo, Ohio; Dan Askew, owner of Vantage Group in San Diego; and Jeff Corey, president of New England's Day's Jewelers, headquartered in Waterville, Maine.
Saturday, June 5
7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.--Breakfast
8 a.m. to 9 a.m.--"Peer Panel 3: Social Networking 2--Best Practices." Join your fellow jewelers to continue the social networking discussion, concerning maximize return from social networking. What are realistic expectations? What tools do you need to get started? How do you gain customers?
The presenter for this session will be Ron Samuelson, chief executive officer of Samuelson's Diamonds, an 87-year-old, family-owned business based in Baltimore. The retailer's Facebook fan page, titled simply "Diamonds," boasts more than 300,000 fans. In addition to Samuelson, the panelists are: Megan Meinerding, vice president of Fruchtman Marketing; Gordon of Samuel Gordon Jewelers, who is also introducing and participating in Thursday's social networking panel; and Donna Jolly, president of Donna Jolly and Associates in Los Angeles.
Sunday, June 6
7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m.--Breakfast
8 a.m. to 9 a.m.--"Peer Panel 4: Human Resources Best Practices--Hiring in the Current Market." After embracing lean philosophies for the past several years-a mindset that often included making difficult decisions regarding employment strategies--jewelers discuss if and how they're adapting their staffing to address the expanding market potential being driven by the economic rebound.
The session will be helmed by Kate Peterson, owner of Washington, D.C.-based Performance Concepts, a management consulting group. A noted sales trainer and human resources specialist, Peterson has directed training at major jewelry retailers, including Kay Jewelers and Littman Jewelers. In addition to Peterson, the panelists are: John Henne, president of Henne Jewelers in Pittsburgh; Jewelers of America Director of Member Services David Peters; and Megan Van Gundy, retail manager of Van Gundy in Ventura, Calif.
