Diamond mystique talk set for 'Bedazzled' exhibit

El Paso, Texas--In conjunction with the "Bedazzled: 5,000 Years of Jewelry" exhibit now on display at the El Paso Museum of Art, an author and researcher from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) will give a talk this week titled "The History and Mystique of Diamonds."

Susan Eisen, chief executive officer of Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry and Watches, is the presenting sponsor of the Bedazzled exhibit, which opened March 27 at the museum in El Paso, Texas, and features the work of Europe's jewelry masters. Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry and Watches sponsored the exhibit in honor of the business' 30th anniversary.

Now, the celebration continues this Thursday, April 15, when the jeweler will sponsor guest speaker Al Gilbertson, a graduate gemologist who wrote American Cut: The First 100 Years, and who is also a diamond researcher at the GIA in Carlsbad, Calif.

Gilbertson boasts an extensive career in the gem and jewelry industry that includes custom cutting, jewelry sales, management and appraising. A principal contributor to the development of GIA's cut grading system for round-brilliant diamonds, he continues to study the influence of proportions and other factors on the appearance of fancy-shaped diamonds.

The special guest event begins with a 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m. cocktail reception with Gilbertson, for which tickets are priced at $15. It will be followed by a free lecture from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the El Paso Energy Auditorium, and then a book signing from 8:15 p.m. to 8:45 p.m. at the El Paso Museum of Art Store.
