JA New York offers optimistic outlook for industry

New York--With its never-before-seen jewelry pieces and variety of new features, the JA New York Summer Show, held last month at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City, helped many jewelry professionals feel a revitalization in the industry, show organizers said on Wednesday.

"We are pleased with all the positive comments regarding the vibe on the show floor, the new show features and seminars offered during the Summer Show, as well as the feedback on the caliber of talent of our designers this year," JA New York Show Group Director Drew Lawsky said in a media release. "The jewelry industry needed something to inspire confidence back in the marketplace, and I'm proud to say the JA New York Summer Show played an integral part in showing everyone that business will definitely happen if presented with the right opportunities likes the ones we offered."

Show attendees were able to see the world's best jewelry pieces from both veteran and debuting designers, and were also encouraged to take advantage of several offerings, including America's Best Jewelers, retail speed networking, educational seminars and numerous show promotions.

JA New York's new designLAB offered exhibitors a social and collaborative atmosphere. Eighteen designers chosen by JA New York Show management shared exhibiting space with each other where they were able to highlight their best pieces to retailers and media. JA New York is the first to offer such an opportunity in the industry and was pleased that it was well received by designers and retailers alike.

The "Industry in The Round Pavilion" was highly received as well. The pavilion attracted buyers who were looking for the latest and most innovative tools and machines for manufacturing and retail stores.

Industry leaders and press previewed the collections of the 10 designers showcased at the New Designer Gallery and voted for the Mort Abelson New Designer of the Year, Manya Tessler of Manya and Roumen.

Leila Tai was awarded with a Michael Good-designed sculpture, honoring her as the grand-prize winner of the American Jewelry Design Council 2009 New Talent Award.

In addition, three exhibitors won a Golden Apple Award to honor them for demonstrating a successful marketing campaign.

The peer-to-peer America's Best Jewelers program gave retailers access to key business practices that translate into high achievement and success in the retail jewelry business. Several retailers attended this free seminar where they learned information on Speed Inventory Turn and Managing Your Web Presence, which was followed by the invitation-only award ceremony for the 2009 America's Best Jewelry Awards, where 27 Couture category retailers received recognition.

The JA New York Summer Show also prepared jewelers for today's marketplace by offering several key marketing sessions and educational seminars throughout the show that were taught by key industry professionals.

With the success of the Summer Show features and seminars, JA New York plans to continue popular seminars and add more features for future shows, show organizers said.
