Industry vet publishes fancy-color diamond book

Ramat Gan, Israel--A new hardcover book on fancy-color diamonds is now available to the trade, according to a news release from the Israeli Diamond industry news service.

Third-generation diamantaire Eden Rachminov, managing owner of Rachminov Diamonds 1891, has written and produced a 231-page tome called The Fancy Color Diamond Book.

According to the release, Rachminov is a world expert on fancy-color diamonds and initiated the book project as a service to clients and the industry as a whole.

The book took two-and-a-half years to research, write, design, edit and produce, and seeks to serve as a definitive source on fancy-color diamonds, both for professionals and consumers.

"The uniqueness of this book is that it provides in-depth commercial, as well as technical information about fancy-color diamonds, and diamonds in general, written in a user-friendly manner. It is meant to assist in closing any fancy-color diamond deal. It is especially useful for the experienced diamantaire but no doubt would be of interest to the private diamond high-end consumer," Rachminov said in the release.

The book includes information about the range of fancy colors of diamonds, as well as issues of grading, clarity, the challenges of cutting these stones and the role of fluorescence in determining their value.

It clears up many misconceptions regarding the Gemological Institute of America diamond report and includes a Fancy Color Diamond Value Scale Comparison, according to the release.

The book will be provided as a special value-added service to Rachminov clients, and a limited supply will be offered for sale.

In addition to the release of this book, the Israeli Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI) just released details on its presence at the upcoming VicenzaOro First 2010 show, scheduled for Jan. 16-21 in Italy.

IDI has organized a national pavilion for the show featuring leading Israeli manufacturers and exporters.

The pavilion will be on the prestigious Diamond Avenue in Pavilion G.

According to a news release, IDI also will have an image booth in the pavilion to provide general information on doing business with Israel and will host six Israeli companies exhibiting a wide variety of goods, including loose stones and diamond-set jewelry.

It is slated to include: AFIC Diamonds Ltd., B.S.M. Diamonds Ltd., Gal Diamonds Ltd., Kristal Diamonds Ltd., Moshe Namdar and Co. and SDE Group.
