Arkansas jeweler retiring after three decades

Little Rock, Ark.--Mary Healey's Fine Jewelry, a fixture in Little Rock, Ark., for 32 years, is closing its doors, owner Mary Healey confirmed to National Jeweler.

Healey said she isn't closing her store, which opened in the 1970s, because of the economy, but rather because she wanted to retire and have some time to herself.

"I just wanted to quit," she said.

Although the store has occupied three different spaces in its three-decade run, expanding over the years as the business grew, Healey said her shop always has been in the same neighborhood in Little Rock.

On Friday, the store's Web site advertised high-end brands such as Kwiat, Oscar Heyman, Rolex and TAG Heuer at 30 percent off the designers' mandated selling price, also noting that offers will be considered.

According to the Web site, the store is liquidating $6 million worth of fine jewelry in its going-out-of business sale.

Healey said there is no firm date set for the store's last official day.

"It will be when it happens," she said, "but it will certainly be before Christmas," adding that the store likely will close by the end of October.
