GIA's Career Fair to feature 24 hiring companies

Carlsbad, Calif.--More than 200 jewelry industry positions will be available to job seekers at the Gemological Institute of America's (GIA) Jewelry Career Fair and Open House on Oct. 16 at the institute's headquarters in Carlsbad.

Twenty-four companies will be recruiting on-site for more than 100 employees. An additional 135 positions can be applied for at the event from listings on the GIA Career Search Engine. These opportunities span the range of the jewelry business and the globe.

In addition, distinguished companies, such as Tiffany and Co., Firestone Inc. and Zale Corp., will be on hand to find qualified candidates who want to pursue a profession in the gem and jewelry industry.

"We have a phenomenal roster of companies, speakers, coaches and, most importantly, numerous professional opportunities available," Kathryn Kimmel, vice president, chief marketing officer and co-founder of the GIA Jewelry Career Fair, said in a media release. "I am confident this Career Fair will connect scores of job seekers with extraordinary career prospects while enlightening all attendees about various aspects of the jewelry industry."

In addition to the employment possibilities, panel discussions and career coaching sessions will be offered. The speakers and coaches will include some of the jewelry industry's most influential executives, as well as top designers and stylists to Hollywood celebrities.

In other GIA news, the institute's award-winning quarterly journal Gems and Gemology has introduced a new, monthly electronic newsletter, the G and G eBrief.

According to the GIA, G and G eBrief delivers the latest research updates to professional gemologists worldwide who want brief articles on topics that have immediate, practical application.

"The need for dependable gemological intelligence has never been greater," Tom Moses, senior vice president of the GIA Laboratory and Research, said in a media release. "The G and G eBrief gives readers access to timely and useful information that is based on rigorous scientific testing."
 
Each G and G eBrief features the latest findings from the GIA Laboratory, global news and trade alerts, helpful tips, insight into future Gems and Gemology issues, upcoming conferences and exhibits worldwide--and even a "brainteaser."
 
"The content in the G and G eBrief will go through the same editorial and production process that has made Gems and Gemology the most trusted professional publication in the field," G and G Editor-in-Chief Alice Keller said in the release.
 
The October through December G and G eBriefs will be distributed free of charge. Beginning in January 2010, the newsletter will be available exclusively to Gems and Gemology subscribers.
